A wild card is an extra card that is not included in the deck. Sometimes, these are referred to as a Joker. They are a bonus to the player’s hand, and they are often considered the best possible hand.

A showdown is the moment when the hand is revealed. Some variations allow players to discard up to three cards. Others, however, require a player to fold. When a player folds, he forfeits his right to compete in the pot, which is then awarded to the player with the highest-ranking hand.

Most poker games use a standard 52-card deck, but the cards can be shuffled for a variety of games. In some games, the ace may be treated as the lowest card.

In some games, the rake is a small amount taken out of the pot each hand. In other games, a rakeback is a percentage of the rake paid back to the player.
